A city is a chaotic place where buildings and spaces and roads are thrown together in a seemingly disorganised way. Somehow there is also order to be found, because most cities are arranged by neighbourhoods, quarters, districts, grids.
To help reflect how I feel about the above statement, I approached this very large painting by dividing it into 12 sections and then over a number of months I painted each section, treating each as a single separate painting. On completion of a section, I numbered it and then covered it up. When I finally finished the last one I had the pleasure of removing all the covered areas to get my first view of the completed piece!
I feel the result captures the feelings of chaos and the order that a city can present.
